The Global Commercialization Academy™ gives researchers, scientists, engineers, and clinicians the business skills to take their work to market through applied certificate programs that are delivered in partnership with governments, universities, and corporate innovation programs.
Expanding commercialization capability helps local economies keep their best inventors building where they are. Talented people need to know there is opportunity to grow.
Research investment produces papers, patents, and possibilities. Jobs are created by the people who translate them into companies, licenses, and industry partnerships.
Most institutional IP sits unlicensed. People trained in commercialization are what moves technology off the shelf and into the economy.
Each program is delivered in 3-hour sessions to institutionally recruited cohorts. Each session is taught live and instructor-led, never recordings or self-paced modules. Cases, examples, and practitioner faculty are optimized for your sector. Program credentials and certificates are administered through Texas Executive Education or can be white-labeled for your institution.
A business bootcamp built for scientists, engineers, and non-business participants developing intellectual property, commercializing a product, or interested in working in that environment. These sessions are designed to improve fluency and understanding of how companies work and the language and concepts that drive them. No venture is required to participate in this exploratory program.
An introduction to the concepts and skills required to bring research to market. These sessions introduce the concepts of intellectual property, licensing, technology transfer, and regulatory pathways. It also demystifies the language, skills, and mindset needed to explore and evaluate potential market opportunities.
This applied certification program supports teams of 2–6 as they build out a commercialization case for a real technology and defend a go/no-go recommendation before a panel of investors and experts on Decision Day. Participants are encouraged to bring their own technology to work on in the program. Alternatively, participants can explore public databases of licensable technologies or agree to be assigned to an existing team.

Most programs end with a pitch competition, demonstrating skills of persuasion and conviction. The Global Commercialization Certification Program ends with Decision Day, where teams present the evidence behind their market validation on a real technology and defend a data-driven go/no-go decision on whether they will continue working on it. They present before a panel of experts and investors and receive feedback and recommendations on next steps if they choose to continue.
Either answer can earn the credential. The evidence decides.
Custom Programs are assembled from the Global Commercialization Academy's proven module catalog. We take a tested architecture, tune it to your sector, portfolio, and goals, and offer the certification turn-key or white labelled for your institution.
We start with your goals: the cohort you have in mind, the outcomes that matter to your organization, and how success will be measured.
We assemble your program from the catalog — which programs, which modules and options, which delivery model — and match practitioner faculty and cases to your sector. Options include in-person kickoff intensives, an in-person Decision Day, and a Commercialization Mission to Austin, Texas.
Live sessions with applied work throughout. Participants earn the configured credential, and many partners run the programs in sequence as a multi-year capability pathway.
All GCA programs are grounded in technology, research output, or intellectual property. This program is not designed for general startup purposes. If you have questions about whether your application will qualify, please feel free to inquire.
The Global Commercialization Academy is designed and led by Mellie Price, MSTC — serial successful founder, seasoned investor, and the former Executive Director of The University of Texas at Austin's M.S. in Technology Commercialization, the longest-running graduate commercialization program in the United States. She is the Executive Director of TEXAS Entrepreneurship & Brumley Institute for Graduate Entrepreneurship at McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin, where she has served as Assistant Professor of Instruction for over a decade.
The Global Commercialization Academy delivers something that AI tutorials and self-paced online programs cannot — the applied form: hands-on practitioner faculty working with cohorts on real technologies, real evidence, real decisions, in real time.
We work with governments, innovation agencies, regions, universities, and corporate innovation programs to deliver custom certificate programs. Tell us about your cohort and your goals — we'll help you deliver a program of your own.
